Effects of Tanning Beds - Is it a Boon or a Bane?

Tanning beds - a boon or a bane? That is the million dollar question that''s uppermost on all tanning-interested people. The effect of tanning beds is not a subject that can be put to rest quickly as the pros and cons maintain almost a supernatural balance with each other. In the industry of tanning beds, tanning bed lotions, tanning bed pillows and other tanning bed accessories, the effects of use are either little understood or worse, suffer from total ignorance. Here, we try to articulate some basic facts about tanning.

Tanning is a body reaction to ultraviolet radiation, typically of two types UVA and UVB. Both these types of radiation have been associated with side effects of tanning beds where the incidence of over exposure has occurred. The effect of tanning beds that worked on UVB radiation have been well documented, with skin burning being observed frequently. This phenomenon caused manufacturers to shift to UVA-type operation where the effect of tanning beds based on this technology was perceived to be low. However, over-exposure to UVA radiation has been suspected to initiate immune system destabilization. Popular knowledge tells us that over-exposure to the sun''s radiation leads to skin cancer. So sun screens are a must for protection, even in artificial tanning to negate any adverse effect of the tanning bed.

In a way, answering the question "Are tanning beds good for us" is analogous to answering the question "Are French fries good for us". Puzzled? When you have French fries in the right amount, it''s a great in-between mealtime snack, but when you get consistent overdoses of it, you can be assured of the road to obesity. And so is the effect of tanning beds too! Take all steps to ensure that you are safe on the tanning bed. Do your research, ferret the internet and speak to your doctor if it means so much to reassure yourself.

Treat the tanning bed with respect and you will be rewarded with what can only be called ethereal beauty. Have a safe and enjoyable tanning time!!

Tanning Beds: A Brief Intro

You look great, work out every day and have a fit body.
Beyond that, you crave for that golden bronze look,
the look that would send the opposite sex into a tizzy.

Well, in that case let me welcome you to the amazing world of tanning bed products. Read on to know more about tanning beds, usage, accessories viz. tanning bed lotions, tanning bed lamps and a few tanning bed tips.

Tanning beds are devices that simulate the sun''s UV rays that give your body the coveted bronze look. The vertical model the indoor tanning bed is preferred over its cousin, the horizontal model as in the vertical model, the tanning is uniform without any physical contact on any surface during the course of the tan and hence no pressure points for tanning. Widely regarded as the surer and faster way to looking great, tanning beds have been a great hit across the world although there have been several tanning bed reviews that broached the topic of harmful effects of tanning beds.

To get the best out of your indoor tanning bed, it''s recommended to use specific indoor tanning oils that are available in the market than outdoor oils. Since the entire effect of the UV rays are on the skin, moisturizers are a must before one begins to use the tanning bed. Also the time spent inside the tanning bed depends on the stage of the tanning routine, the skin type and the number of tanning bed lamps that are being used.

An investment with rich dividends, indoor tanning beds have become commonplace, what with discount tanning beds and installment schemes paving the way for affordability. However, before acquiring a tanning bed, it is important to understand what you are paying for and the subsequent costs of owning this equipment. Apart from the initial set-up cost, tanning bed lotions, pillows, and lamps could all pinch your pocket a little more than you expect and hence it is advisable to do a cost-benefit analysis before making a purchase decision. As a long term decision, it is purely a matter of balancing the emotional need to look great with the financial need to curtail spends.

Discover the wonders of the tanning bed and get the dream look you have always wanted!!

7 Tips for Great Skin At Any Age

1. Cleanse your face twice a day - Did you know that every time you don''t wash off accumulated dirt and environmental ''stuff'' at night, you age your skin 27 days? You can help prevent some premature signs of aging by making sure you cleanse your face every morning and night. In the morning, you are washing off the residue of the cell renewal process, which occurs primarily at night. In the evening, you''re cleansing off the day''s effects on your skin, including exposure to pollution, sun, wind and office building air.

2. Use a skin care system - Putting together a cleanser, toner and moisturizer from what''s on sale at the chain drugstore down the street is a recipe for disaster where your skin is concerned. Use a skin care system with products that are designed and formulated to work together, and you''ll get much better results. Even you die-hard soap and water users could benefit from use of a skin care system. No more guess work about which product is the best for your particular type of skin, or wondering what to do when you run out and your drugstore no longer carries your "favorite" product. Gentlemen, this means you as well!

3. Eat a balanced diet - Yes, we all know that a balanced diet is the healthy thing to do, but did you also realize that a balanced diet helps with the moisture balance and the condition of your skin? Start with a minimum of 8 - 12 glasses of water each and every day, and follow up with lots of fruits and vegetables. Continue with a basic low-fat diet (but don''t starve yourself!) and good-quality protein, and you''ll have a recipe for not only good health, but also great skin!

4. Be gentle - Use a very light touch on your facial skin at all times. If you''re used to rubbing your face or eyes vigorously (if you have allergies, itchy eyes or sensitive skin) you could be aggravating the condition. The skin on your face is very delicate, and the skin under your eyes is the most delicate of all! Never rub under your eyes. If they itch, try a cold compress or washcloth, or a cotton pad moistened with toner or witch hazel. Aggressive rubbing during your cleaning routine can also cause damage. Use a gentle touch on your face at all times.

5. Moderation in alcohol consumption - Alcoholic drinks tend to enlarge the blood vessels near the surface of your facial skin, and prolonged alcohol consumption or abuse can damage your skin. The overall health effects can be very negative, and they''ll show up first in your face!

6. Get your ZZZZ''s ? The majority of cell repair and generation performed by your body''s systems happens when you are at rest. If you''re not getting enough sleep, your skin can''t renew itself. Find the right sleep balance for you by tracking how you feel when you sleep 6 - 8 hours versus 4 - 6 hours over a 7 to 10 day period. When you feel your best for an extended period, that may be the right sleep level and amount for you. Try to ensure proper rest by winding down from the day''s stressful activities so that you can fall asleep easily and rest completely.

7. Watch out for nature! - Blustery days with lots of wind can cause your skin to become dry and tight. We often protect our skin from winter''s chill winds, ice and snow, but windy days in any season can cause skin damage. If you''re riding in a fast-moving vehicle, or with the window down, make sure to moisturize your skin before and after the ride, especially if you notice any tightness. In fact, don''t wait for the tightness to appear, take extra care with your skin every single day!

Follow these tips to help give you great skin at any age!

What Causes Aging?

Although we experience the aging process as a progressive physical deterioration of our bodies, the aging process, according to some preliminary case studies appears to be more easily understood at another level of our being.

This is what is called the energy bio-field level. Many of us have heard of the term "aura". Well this is in a small way a reperesentation of that energy bio-field. This bio-field has been shown (see Michael Talbot''s "The Holographic Universe") to contain embedded in it one''s entire life history.

In other words, what you experience as your personality, your consciousness and the memories of your life appear to be stored in this bio-field in energy form.

I have over the last ten years been working with a new tool called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) that heals an individual of past emotional traumas which are stored in their consciousness and hence in their bio-field.

I have made repeated anecdotal observations that reveal that when such trauma is released by MRP an individual begins not only to feel younger but actually starts to "look" younger. These observations have inspired me to try to document the changes by monitoring age related markers such as DHEA levels and testosterone levels in middle aged men in upcoming studies.

It is known that both DHEA and testosterone levels decline in a rather predictable manner in mid life. I am planning to administer MRP to men in this age bracket to show whether MRP can be shown to reverse these trends.

What does this all mean? Well, it suggests that aging is related to the accumulated "emotional" trauma that we experience and "carry" in our bio-field as toxic information. This toxic information then cascades down (see "The Divine Holographic Energy Field") and disrupts the functioning and integrity of the physical body at all levels. The result is illness and aging.

What I am now seeing with MRP is that this information can be released permanently and that this appears to "re-organize" the bio-field so that it can heal the body spontaneously. This appears then to manifest as a more youthful and healthy body.

Aging then, at the bio-field level appears to be the result of an accumulation of toxic traumatic emotional memories stored there as disruptive information. What is interesting is that all of this can be cleared (see "Eliminating the Past" and "We Are Not Our Persoanlities")with MRP.

So the next question is, is aging really necessary? In an article entitled "Do You Love Your Body?" I make the point that it is the toxic environment created by this stored toxic information, at the bio-field level, that "convinces" or "forces" us to abandon, our physical bodies. If this environment were cleaned up however would there be as much motivation for one to choose to jettison their body? I doubt it.

I elaborate on this in a longer article entitled " A Tuned Bio-Field: A New Definition of Consciousness" (Parts 1 &2).

Color Contact Lenses - Do They Work on Dark Eyes?

Do you want to change dark eye color to something different, but you are unsure if color contacts will work for your eyes? If you have brown eyes and tried color contact lenses several years ago, you were probably disappointed. Color contacts of the previous generation ether gave your eye color only a very slight change or your eyes looked blue but completely unnatural.

Creating color lenses that would truly transform brown eyes into sky blue or emerald green is a very difficult task, but modern color contact lenses can do it. The trick is to select the lenses that would work for you.

There are two types of color contacts - enhancement color contacts and opaque color lenses. Enhancers usually come in different shades of blue, green and gray and are designed to make your natural eye color look brighter. They are translucent and create a natural-looking effect. Unfortunately, enhancement color contacts work only for light eyes. Over brown eyes, enhancers would be either completely invisible or create only a very light tint that was not enough to change your color.

Opaque color contacts, on the other side, are specially designed for brown eyes. As the name suggests, they aren''t transparent; only the center of the lens is clear, so you can still see. Opaque lenses aren''t solid color, of course: they simulate the natural pattern of a human eye.

However, not all opaque color contacts do a good job of recreating a natural pattern. Here, I will highlight the brands that create a vivid, but natural-looking, effect.

Freshlook Colorblends by Ciba Vision looks very realistic, because the base color for each lens is actually a mix of three different shades - just as it usually is in the human iris. The lens is lighter toward the middle and darker at the edge, with a pattern imprinted on it. The color created is vivid, but dark, so Freshlook Colorblends won''t make your eyes appear light. Freshlook Colorblends are monthly disposable color lenses. In my opinion, Amethyst and True Sapphire are their best colors.

Acuvue 2 Colors Opaques also create a beautiful, realistic effect. Like all Acuvue contacts, Acuvue 2 Colors is a comfortable lens. The lenses are designed to be replaced every two weeks - this is what the "2" in the name means. Acuvue 2 Colors is manufactured by Johnson '' Johnson.

Illusions, also by Ciba Vision, can transform your brown eyes into light blue or green. The effect they create is truly amazing. One drawback of Illusions, though, is that they are traditional, annual replacement contact lenses, which means that they are thicker and not as comfortable as Freshlook or Acuvue.

Problems opaque color contact lenses can create.

One problem is that a lens can slip a little on your eye, so part of your brown iris is visible. Most people, however, don''t worry about it, because the brown is visible only under close scrutiny; otherwise, it blends with the black of your pupil.

Another problem is that opaque color lens might affect your vision. As you know, pupils get larger or smaller, depending on the lighting conditions - it is smallest under a bright light and largest in the dark. Since the clear part of color contact lens isn''t adjustable, in low light situations, part of your pupil will be covered by the opaque lens and your vision will be decreased. It doesn''t mean that you won''t be able to see in the dark, just not as well as you would see if you weren''t wearing your contacts. For this reason, driving at night while wearing your color contacts isn''t recommended - at least, not until you know for sure how they affect your eyes.

If you wonder how you will look with different eye colors, give color contacts a try. Eyes are the focal point of your look, and you would be amazed how different you appear with eyes of a different color.

Color Contact Lenses for Light Eyes - What Works Best?

You may ask why a person with naturally blue or green eyes would want to wear color contact lenses? One reason is to make the natural color look brighter and more defined. Another reason is to change the hue just a bit - ad a touch of emerald to naturally blue eyes, for instance, and you will get a beautiful aquamarine.

All color contacts can be separated into two types - enhancement color lenses and opaque color lenses. Both will work for people with light eyes, although enhancers would be the smarter choice.

Enhancement color lenses are about 70-80% transparent. They are designed not to change your natural eye color, but to brighten it, making your eyes appear more interesting. Since the lens is partially transparent and the natural pattern of your iris is visible through it, enhancers look very natural.

If you have gray eyes and you want to give them a tint of blue or green, enhancement lenses would do the trick. However, don''t expect dramatic changes.

Since enhancement color lenses are partially transparent, they would look very different on different people. Don''t pay to much attention to how the model who wears the sample looks, because it is likely that on you the lenses will have a different effect.

Most contact lens manufacturers present enhancement color contact lenses collections. Here are several that get the most favorable consumer reviews.

Freshlook by Ciba Vision offers two collections for light eyes - Freshlook Radiance and Freshlook Dimensions. Freshlook Radiance are enhancement color lenses that make your eyes appear shining. They can also change your natural color substantially. The colors offered are Moonlight, Autumn and Eden.

Freshlook Dimensions are unique lenses that make your eyes appear larger and create depth, as well as make your natural color more vivid. Dimensions are lighter than Radiance and come in Aqua, Sea Green and Pacific Blue. Both Freshlook Radiance and Freshlook Dimensions are monthly disposable lenses.

Acuvue 2 Colors enhancers is another option. They come in Ocean Blue, Aquamarine and Emerald Green. Acuvue 2 Colors are 2-week disposable contacts; they are very thin and most wearers say that it doesn''t feel like you''re wearing anything in your eyes.

The lighter your eyes, the bigger the impact that enhancement color lenses will have on them. If your eyes are medium gray, blue or hazel the effect will be hardly noticeable. For dramatic change, you will need opaque color contacts.

A Colorless Spray Tan? What the...

For months now I''ve had a steady stream of tanners coming into my spray tanning salon and leaving 10 minutes later with the colour of their skin in no way different from the one that they came in with.

Yet, they come again and again.

Why, do you ask, would anybody want a colorless spray tan? Isn''t it totally contrary to what the whole exercise is supposed to be about?

Welcome to the new era in spray tanning!

The newest thing on the market that is gaining more and more followers is spray tanning with a colorless (clear) spray tanning solution.

Once you''ve had it, it is hard to go back to the old solution containing bronzer.

For years bronzer has been added to the spray tanning solution for 2 reasons:

1) For immediate gratification, so that immediately after the session it would appear that you just came back from holidays,

2) To ensure that you got even tan. The person spray tanning you had to know if she did not miss any parts of your body. The brown dye in the solution could show her exactly where she had been.

People that spray tan frequently know that until now you had to pay for those few days of golden skin with at least one day of discomfort.

When bronzer is added to the spray tanning solution, it is responsible for myriad of problems:

? There are often streaks. Sure, most of it comes out in the first shower, but until then you run around with what looks like a map of a river running down the back of your legs. A dead give away that you just had a spray tan.

? You can get dark stains, especially on your hands and feet. Those are almost impossible to remove in a hurry.

? The brown dye gets onto your clothes and underwear. Once again, most of it comes off in the wash, but if you try to wear your good satin or silk bra, the only place for it, after the encounter with a bronzer will be in the rubbish bin.

? If you have large pores on your face you will end up with a "blackhead effect". The bronzer will lodge in those pores, and it will take days for it to come out. Very unattractive. The same will happen if you shave or wax your legs. You will have spotty legs for a week.

? Because the bronzer lodges itself so deep in the pores, it can keep coming out for days on end onto your sheets, and towels. Also on the white clothes if you happen to sweat (no bride would sweat in her wedding dress, right?)

And what if spray tanning solution has no added bronzer?

Well, the problems described above simply don''t exist. You get sprayed, and your own skin develops the colour. Full stop.

The only drawback of being sprayed with a clear spray tanning solution is that you will have to wait for your tan about 5-7 hours.

Oh, and another thing, you will probably have to get your tan done in a spray tan booth. The reason for it is that most of technicians that do spray tans with a hand held unit simply cannot do a good job without the bronzer.

So the way to spray tan these days is to hop into a spray tan booth, 1 minute later wipe yourself down , put your clothes on, and be on your way.

Unless of course you like to stand completely naked for 20 minutes or so in front of a complete stranger while being spray tanned and getting streaks, blackheads and stains.

The choice is clear.
